A Case of Membranous Glomerulonephritis Associated with Overian Cancer

Abstract

|
The development of several types of glomerular injury in patients with cancer has been recognized and is considered as one of the paraneoplastic syndromes. Most prominent were the occurrence of membranous glomerulonephritis in patients with
carcinoma,
and the association between minimal change glomerulopathy and Hodgkin's disease. The most common carcinomas associated with membranous glomerulonephritis are those of the lung, gastrointestinal and breast. Ovarian cancer-related nephrotic
syndrome
was
rarely reported.
We report a case of ovarian carcinoma presenting as nephrotic syndrome due to membgranous glome4rulonephritis. A total badominal hypsterectomy and bilateral salpingp-oophorectomy done, but the degree of proteinuria and the level of CA-125 did not
diminished. Although uncommon, ovarian carcinoma must be considered in the differential diagnosis of cancer-related membranous glomerulonephritis.
